OFFICE AND CRAFT ROOM MAKEOVER GOALS
As you may know, I recently downsized my house to 1,000 square feet for my daughter and myself. This moved me from a full basement of creative space, to a 10′ X 10′ room. So it is obviously time to make some office and craft room makeover goals!
Maximizing my space is my number one goal! I need to be able to work on my computer as well as working on craft projects and tutorials. I am one of those people who needs to concentrate my messes and projects in one area, because having them strewn out all over my house causes me some stress.
One thing I have accomplished already is installing Billy bookcases from Ikea. I absolutely love these and they allowed me so much storage. In a small house finding creative storage is key!
Here is a photo of my storage space before the bookcases (this is the same corner as the photo above):
The additional of usable storage is amazing! I have room for everything and a little bit more.
You know, we crafters can always find a way to add a “little bit more”!
My upcoming makeover involves this wall and work area. The wallpaper needs to go (it just screams 1980’s country blue, don’t you think?) and a new desk needs to happen. And those curtains…yuck!
Since I want to avoid removing the wallpaper and fixing the texture afterwards, a plank wall is in the works. I will simply paint the wallpaper white (so the wallpaper stripes do not show through the planks) and plank the wall and paint it bright white. I think this will look wonderful with my bright white bookcases!
For the desk I am going to install a 36″ high plywood plank that sticks out 30″ from the wall, and cover it with reclaimed fencing. I think the look will be fantastic!
This will be a heavily used work space, so adding the height for cutting and the depth for additional area to work on is going to be great! I do a lot of cutting with my rotary cutter and mat, so the high desk is a must. Of course a taller office chair will be required!
My hope is to have some finished room pictures in about one month…maybe sooner.
There is quite a bit about this project that feels totally and completely overwhelming, but I CAN DO IT.
At least that is what I am whispering to myself these days!
When I am done I think my 100 square feet of space is going to work just fine for me.
And now I am off to Home Depot to meet my office and craft room makeover goals!
Have a lovely day, friends!
