MY FAVORITE FURNITURE FLIPS (SO FAR!)
I love flipping furniture pieces! Β What a fun way to repurpose something that is bound for the trash or thrift store. Β Give me something in terrible shape, and I love bringing it back to life.
My favorite furniture flips (so far!) are all desks, tables, and chairs.
At some point I would love to come across a buffet or a large dresser to have some fun with. Β Taking out drawers and creating shelf space is a good way to turn hidden storage into decorative shelving. Β This technique really transforms a piece and allows you to add visual interest in your living space.
Chairs are simply fun! Β They are small and quick to paint, and changing out fabric seat covers is simple.
The only drawback to chairs is that I feel like I am wasting paint when I spray them since they are so many slats and openings to spray onto. Β Other than that they are great to work with.
Chairs can be used for seating, but also decoratively.
Painting a set of four chairs in different colors would make a great wall display (and they can still be used as seating when needed!). Β Painting a patio set was on my to-do list for this summer, but that idea is hopping over to next summer’s list since I am running out of time.
My very first furniture flip piece was this adorable desk that I was given for free (my favorite price!). Β I experimented with a shiny bar top, but I did not like it so I removed it and started over. Β Always remember with furniture flips it is fine to experiment. Β What you learn while making one piece will transfer over into future projects.
The Paint Color Dilemma
One area of disappointment for me has been with picking paint colors. Β I like playing around and creating unique pieces that probably do not work in everybody’s home. Β This translates over into my pieces taking a while to sell, but I have decided that is OK since one of my favorite parts of the whole process is the color. Β I just do not think that any of these would be as interesting in plain black or white, although they would sell quickly.
Right now I have a writer’s desk and a mid-mod desk all ready to start. Β My schedule has eased up a bit recently and I am VERY happy to say that I will be getting to these lovelies soon. Β And, of course, I will be telling you all about it soon.
If you have any questions about flipping furniture be sure to ask in the comments section or send me an email. I will help out any way that I can!
Have a happy day!
Do you have a favorite type or brand of paint to use on furniture? I’ve got an old drop leaf sewing table that is in need of a refresh.
Hi Heather,
For chalk paint I always use Rustoleum…but I will say that the colors are limited. Other than that I generally use a coat of primer and then a basic latex paint. I have used Valspar, Behr and Sherwin-Williams and have never had a problem yet. I think the best way to start it to clean your piece up well, and then fill any holes/big scratches with Wood Filler (I use one called Plastic Wood). Prime and paint as needed.
Please feel free to email me or message me on FB if you need more help. I would love to see a pic of the sewing table!
Have a lovely day,

Beautiful pieces Randi! I know what you mean about the colored pieces taking longer to sell though. I had that same problem when I first got my space at the antique mall, it took FOR.EVER for colored pieces to sell. I finally gave in and started painting everything white. I guess people just have a hard time envisioning anything but white in their homes.
I just wanted to make one suggestion… totally not related to this post at all… it’s about your subscriber popup. Can you make it delay a little before it pops up? When I come to your blog before I’ve even had a chance to scroll down to see the post I’m interested in it pops up and as a reader my first instinct is to close it so I can see what I originally came to see. I find that I don’t even read what the incentive to sign up is… I just want it to move so I can see the post! ha ha! You might have a higher conversion rate if people can see your beautiful pictures first… then they know they like what they see and when that pop up comes up they are more likely to read it and then sign up!!
I think I have mine set to 45 seconds. Just a thought :o)
Tania
Thanks for the pop-up tip! I appreciate it! I will take care of that.
Have a lovely day,
Randi
It’s all lovely! I especially like the table and chairs. You did a fantastic job breathing new life into those pieces!

The pieces look lovely!
Thank you, Lisa!
All of these pieces are really nice. But of course my favorite is the pink one.
These look GREAT! Have you ever checked out Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint? A bit pricey, but no primer needed! I’m just starting with it for a few personal projects.
Would LOVE if you’d share your post at my first ever Reader Tip Tuesday link up party: http://www.jodiefitz.com/2017/08/01/reader-tip-tuesday-along-new-food-craft-party/

As per usual I love them all! I’m not afraid to use color, but my family often balks if I do. (Once I painted a bench beige-beige!-and my kids had a fit!) I love chalk paint and whites as well. Thanks so much for sharing with us over at Vintage Charm:)

Thank you so much for sharing your favorite furniture flips but the pink and white table is my favorite. I am featuring your post at the party today.
Thank you, Sharon! π
Love your pieces!
In the table and chairs picture…Did you refinish the table top? If so what did you use? I would be interested in your process too!
Hi Suzanne! I actually made the table using this free tutorial: https://rogueengineer.com/diy-farmhouse-dining-table-plans/
I had to size it smaller for my small house, but it was quite simple to make.
I picked up the chairs at a yard sale for $1 each and painted and recovered them. It was a similar process to this chair: https://afreshsqueezedlife.com/2017/10/16/repurpose-chairs/
Have a lovely day! Randi π
