ADD ADVENTUROUS COLOR TO YOUR HOME DECOR
I am gonna share a little secret about myself: I love color!

As much I find the farmhouse style appealing, the neutral aspect of it is only background for me. I do love bright white, gray and black, and wood tones for my blank canvas, but from there pops of color are what makes my heart sing!
I have a tendency to choose one or two colors at a time, and right now green is my thing! You know the green I am talking about: Kelly Green from the Crayola box. That vintage-y, bright, happy green from childhood. I chose Evergreen paint from Dixie Belle Paint Company.
A friend of mine bought a chair I flipped a while ago and she let me take this one that it would replace. I decided to be bold with my color choice and I could not be happier with it!
Go With A Neutral Background
Basic neutrals as a background are perfect for starters. They allow your colors to really take center stage. Neutrals act like a blank canvas for you to have fun with your color!
Don’t Go Crazy
You do not need to add color everywhere. Personally, it is the “pops” of color that I love. Small pieces that add color and continuity in a room can really brighten things up. Be sure to add a few pops of that one color to create an allover look.
Do What You Want
Yes, I said it. Use any color that YOU like. It is easy to get caught up in the latest trends, but YOU need to happy with the look of your home. Are you a purple lover? Use purple. Red makes you happy? Go with red! Do not get stuck in doing what everyone else is doing.
Stick With What You Pick
Once you decide on a color (or two) to introduce, stick with it. Adding too much color will overwhelm the eye and appear to be random. You are shooting for a cohesive look. Remember that you can always change things up when you get tired of your color choices. This is one of the benefits of a neutral background!
Color does not need to be scary as long as you start small and are thoughtful in your choices. There is no need for a boring, bland color palette in your home!

The way you create and design are so authentic to who you are. I don’t use that word lightly because it is so over used in a trendy kind of way these days. But you are authentically a “pop of color” in the world!
I for one have to have color…I have that same green on my living room walls, and well, it works every time of the year. Love your chair, and sound advice. Thanks for the great post, Sandi
I agree with you about the pop of color. After you have all of the neutrals the pop of color brings it alive.
I totally agree! I love farmhouse too but there is somewhat of a sterile feeling if everything is white. To me it doesn’t feel lived in. Colors make me happy! 🙂
Yes, Colleen! Color is happiness for me too! Have a lovely weekend!
Love that color. This chair would definitely dress up any room! Thanks for sharing with our link party!
Have a lovely day, Stephanie!
I love that green it is perfect for you Randi – It suits you
I totally agree that a pop of colour is wonderful against a more neutral background. A neutral background is much easier to use for cohesiveness in your home decor and then the pops of colour add the variety. Very pretty green.
It is a lovely color and the chair looks great. I absolutely love Dixie Belle paint! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm — hope to see you there at tomorrow’s party as well:) xo Kathleen |Our Hopeful Home

I love the pops of Colour in your house Randi and I love your style
Thanks for the sweet words, Amber! 🙂
I so agree with you. Adding one or two pops of colour with a neutral background is the easiest way to decorate.
I just saw this pin and clicked right away to your site. I, too, love the farmhouse look and a neutral background, but need some color to keep things interesting! Your home is beautiful and I so appreciate your pops of color! I actually have a Pinterest group board called Farmhouse in Color! Thanks for the inspo…this one’s getting pinned right to it!
I like to experiment with my home interiors every year. And this year I sticked to go green formula. Your tips helped me a lot. Especially that don’t go crazy one. I only get to hear Wows from my guests. All credit goes to you.
