HOW TO CLEAN BLINDS: VINYL OR ALUMINUM
I recently listed my house for sale, so figuring out how to clean blinds was in order. Once I tackled the job, I regretted not doing it long ago. It was so simple to do and the results were great! I had forgotten that the blinds on my windows were a creamy white and not a dingy beige.

The toughest part of the job was removing the blind from the bracket. One window in particular caused me to break out my karate skills, and I may or may not have actually cussed at the mini-blind. I am so thankful that there are no hidden cameras in my house to catch this kind of action!
The one thing I will suggest to you is to wait until a warm, sunny day to clean your mini-blinds This will cut down on the mess in the house. You can do all of the cleaning and drying out on your driveway or lawn.
STEP ONE:
Remove the blind from the bracket. On my blinds I needed to firmly press down on the bracket, which is is located on the top left side of the blind. Press down until it pops out of place. If you have a long blind with 3 brackets, it is helpful to have someone hold the opposite end while you pop the last bracket. This keeps you from losing control of the blind and dropping it. I kept the blinds in the “down” and “open”position while I removed them from the window.
STEP TWO:
Since it was sunny outside, I cleaned my blinds on my driveway. You could also do it on the lawn or in a bathtub (depending on the size of your blinds). I used a hose to get the blind wet and then I used a sponge and some Dawn dishwashing soap to clean it with hot, soapy water. Wipe until clean and rinse with the hose.
STEP THREE:
Let the blinds bask in the sun until they are dry.
STEP FOUR:
Now you can pop them back into your window. Once again you have to find the “feel” of the bracket, but be patient and you will get it locked into place.
Now that you know how to clean blinds, all you need to do it sit back and enjoy the view. And don’t be like me and wait until you are moving to make them shine! Do it now for you and for your family. It’s a simple job to do, and totally worth the time!

Have a great day, friends!
What good information. I hate cleaning blinds since getting them down is such a hassle. Thanks for sharing your tips!
I was so happy to find that once they are down, it’s a cinch to clean them.
Have a lovely day, Wendi!
I am pinning this because I need to clean mine and am DREADING it.
Hi Kari,
I have mulling over cleaning my windows, but it’s such a big job. But it looks SO GOOD when it’s done. Still can’t decide…
Have a lovely day,
Randi 🙂
Guess I better get to it. They get dusted but even that doesn’t really clean them.
Hi Cindy,
You will be surprised at how nice they are when they are clean. It’s worth it!
Randi 🙂
It is a job I despise, but you have shone me an easy way, so I’ve enlisted my husband to help me remove them and do the job outside. Thank you for the tips; I am grateful.
