CHOOSE A NEW ENDING:WALKING THROUGH CHANGE
Walking through change can be like reading on of those books that has an option to choose a new ending. If you want a particular ending, you turn to page XYZ, or another–even better–ending can be found starting on page ABC. It’s fun in a book!
Life, however, occasionally offers change that is not quite so appealing. Maybe it’s the need for a sudden move, or illness, or the loss of a relationship. Whatever life hands you, it’s possible to make it through to the other side with grace and joy.
I can say this because I have had to do it. I say “had to” because it was not what I would have chosen at the time, but now that I am on the other side of things, life is bright and wonderful (amidst the usual struggles). There is so much to look forward to!
Several years ago life presented me with the fact that I would once again be single after 20+ years of marriage. Let me assure you that I was not excited or hopeful in any way at that time. Fear was my closest friend and the feeling of loss was off the charts. The Talking Heads summed it up perfectly with the phrase “how did I get here???”!
Well, one thing that I will tell you up front is that you have to lean into it. You have to look at what’s coming in the eye and stare it down and know that you will survive with God’s help.
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” —Isaiah 43:19
This verse was of great importance to me during the days of change. I had to hold onto the fact that God was not surprised by my life circumstances, and that He had promised me a future full of good things. And I had to hold on to that fact without being able to see it.
Yet.
The tricky thing about walking through change is that you can’t see the outcome. You have to trust. You have to know that God has you and your life in the palm of His hands. And that He won’t let go for even one minute. This is a tremendous life-saving thought when your life is in a free-fall.
So, that new ending I was talking about? God knows what it looks like. And it’s a good one. He promises that. Of course, life always has challenges. And those will never go away. But you can be successful at walking through change when you let God light your path. He is the best Friend, Daddy, Husband, Guide and Shelter that a girl could have. The same as He was there for me, He is there for you.
