KITCHEN MAKEOVER ON THE CHEAP
Remodeling is busy work, and my Kitchen Makeover on the Cheap is no exception!
At this point my kitchen is still a work in progress, but everything that needs to be done is inexpensive, so the challenge at this point is finding free time to do more work!
Last weekend beadboard was installed as a backsplash and it really brightens up my kitchen space. If you spend any time hanging out here on my blog you know “bright” is my thing! Lots of white light with pops of color make me happy.
The best thing about this little re-do is the cost: the beadboard, paint and glue to install it cost less than $70!
One frustrating thing about my kitchen is the black cabinets, which, in my opinion, darkens things up a little much. But painting cabinets appeals to me not at all, and buying new ones is out of the question, so figuring out how to work with them is what I am doing.
Going with the flow of the cabinets, you might say!
As you can see in the picture below, there was no backsplash installed initially, and the area was just painted a grey-green (this color flows over from my dining area).
The white backsplash adds a better contrast to the black on the cabinets and reflects the light better. I find that the more white I am adding to my small house, the more it seems to be opening up (you can check out my Living Room Makeover here).
Still on my list to-do for my kitchen makeover:
***Refinish those bar chairs
***Paint the island (white?)
***Paint the kitchen walls (was considering going with white, but am in the process of changing my mind!)
***Make a cute, farmhouse-y sign to cover the opening over the microwave
***New light fixture over the sink
My big question at this point is the color of the island and the chairs. I am thinking of painting the island the color of the beadboard backsplash, and using gel stain to stain the chairs a darker brown. That would match my dining table, which is just to the right of the kitchen space:
If you have any thoughts/opinions for me on choosing my colors for my kitchen makeover, I would love to hear them. I am feeling a bit stuck in indecision right now!
Have a lovely day!
