CINNAMON STARS: A TUTORIAL
Well this is one of those situations that really screams “reality”! When I was making these adorable Cinnamon Stars I shot my photos and set aside my camera. The next day I used my camera to shoot a video tutorial, and guess what I did after that? I deleted my cinnamon stars tutorial pictures.
All of them!
Lucky for me, this is a very simple little craft to make, so I think that text directions will be just fine. Be sure to email me if you have any questions about how to make these!
GATHER YOUR MATERIALS: 1 cup cinnamon, 1 cup applesauce, star-shaped cookie cutter (you can use any shape, of course!), rolling pin, tin foil, baking sheet, baker’s twine or other decorative trims
STEP ONE: Mix the cinnamon and applesauce in a bowl until completely blended.
STEP TWO: Shake some cinnamon on your counter and then place the cinnamon dough on top of it. Shake more cinnamon on top of your dough. This extra cinnamon will help to keep the dough from sticking to your counter.
STEP THREE: Roll your dough to 1/4″ thickness and cut out shapes with the star cutter. You can re-roll the dough numerous times to get the most out of your dough. I cut approximately 20 with this recipe.
STEP FOUR: Line a baking sheet with foil and set the cinnamon shapes on the foil. Using a toothpick or skewer, poke holes in the shapes where you want to add string to hang them. Be sure your hole goes all the way through the dough.
STEP FIVE: Bake at 200 degrees for 1-1/2 to 2 hours. When the shapes are hard, they are done. Cool before touching.
STEP SIX: Have fun decorating them any way you like. Add ribbon, twine, raffia or baker’s twine to add color and charm.
These little cuties are great strung on a garland or used at decorations on the tree. You can also use them to trim gifts. Toss these in a pot of boiling water and let them dissolve to scent your house with Christmas loveliness!
Happy crafting, friends!
