SIMPLE VALENTINE’S GARLAND: A TUTORIAL
Valentine’s Day is almost here and that means it is time to get crafting! This Simple Valentine’s Garland: A Tutorial is perfect to get us started!
Another holiday is an opportunity to let those we love know how we feel about them, but it can also be overwhelming to think of adding one more thing to our to-do lists. Well, this little craft is simple and quick and inexpensive to make.
You can customize these garlands with colors and patterns for your friends or children. Hang these over a mirror, or in a doorway. A mantel is a perfect spot to decorate too. Use your imagination to place these where someone will feel the love!
GATHER YOUR MATERIALS: 12″ X 12″ scrapbooking papers (you can cut approximately 16 hearts from each piece), a heart-shaped craft punch, thread, sewing machine.
***The amount of paper you need depends on the length and amount of garlands you will need. Keep that in mind when you are purchasing.
Your first step is simple: cut out your heart shapes with the heart-shaped punch. You will be able to get 16 from each paper, but be sure to fit the hearts close together. Also, pay attention to whether or not your paper is directional (the LOVE paper needed to be cut across the page since I wanted the LOVE to be across my hearts).
Now you will sew the hearts together using your sewing machine. Sew down each heart without cutting the thread between each one. This will form a string of “flags”. There needs to be a bit of space between each heart, so you will simply pull your heart up to a chosen spot on your machine, and then add another and sew it on too. I pulled each heart up to the edge of my machine as shown with the pink heart in the picture below:
Create garlands as long as you want them to be. I wanted mine to be about 18″ long, but you could make them much longer or shorter depending on where you will be hanging them.
I used tape to hang mine along the top edge of a frame, but a tack will work just as well.
Voila! You now have an adorable Valentine’s Garland for someone you love.
Happy Valentine’s Day, friends!
