HOW TO ADD MINDFULNESS TO YOUR HOME DECOR
Mindfulness is an idea taking the world by storm at the moment, and many people are carrying out small changes to ensure that their everyday lives are a little more positive. To be mindful essentially means to be conscious of something, so when we act with mindfulness we’re pretty much being aware of the way in which we’re doing it, and the benefits that it brings. But can you entwine this idea with the decor that you use in your home?
I’ve reflected on the idea here…
Plants, plants and more plants
As we all know already, plants are great for your mental and physical health. Not only do they bring the positivity of the outdoors in, but they also help to regulate the air quality in your home. However, can they help with mindfulness? The answer is a resounding ‘yes’, because tending to your house plants helps you to connect with nature, and grow and care for something beautiful!
Think about sounds
The general vibe in your home isn’t just influenced by decor ideas. Sure, you may have a striking speaker system, but are you bringing mindfulness in through what you’re playing on it? Think about the relaxing music that can influence the feeling in your home, and use it to complement your choice of decor. Be a decluttering queen
Another way to make your home and your decor mindful is to focus on decluttering. Whether you go all out Marie Kondo or simply reassess whether you could send some of your things to a more loving home, mindfulness can be achieved by being thoughtful about your belongings, and what purpose they actually serve for you. Treating them with the right love and care is a perfect way to be mindful.
Bring positive objects in
Sometimes, a space doesn’t feel mindful because of the objects that occupy it. Think about the positive objects that you could utilize; perhaps you want to get your hands on some candles and fairy lights to really set the mood, or maybe you want to fill your bookshelf with some happy titles. Signs with positive slogans on them can really start your day in the best way possible, too.
Use light wisely
Light is something that we should all be mindful of, because it can have such a positive (and negative) influence on our health and happiness. Bring natural light into your home if you can, and if you don’t have much of it readily available, then think about how you can use mirrors to reflect it, or light colored paint to really lift the mood of your room. Light will bring a sense of happiness to your everyday life.
So, if you want to be mindful with your decor, then be sure to keep these ideas in mind. You’ll be on your way to creating a positive feeling in your home in no time!
