HOW TO MAKE BATH BOMBS
HOW DO YOU MAKE BATH BOMBS?
I love a good bath bomb, don’t you? It is simply lovely to sit in the bathtub while a scented bath bomb fizzes in the water. It feels quite luxurious!
We all need to take better care of ourselves and allow ourselves time for stillness and to be in a space that is quiet and relaxing. A good book, hot water, and a bath bomb are the perfect recipe!
Of course, we can all go to LUSH and buy those wonderful bath bombs, but it is oh-so-easy to make your own! And when you make your own, you can use scents and additions that you love.
Personally, I don’t care for the brightly colored bombs and I stick to the lighter colors and light scents. But you can definitely add bright colors and heavy scents if that is what you like. Kids, especially, like the brightly colored bombs! And this recipe is so easy that is a perfect project to make with your kids!
DIY Bath Bombs make perfect gifts for friends and family as well. Make up a bunch of them and package them in a clear bag and tie the bag up with cute, coordinating ribbon. Voila! You have Christmas or birthday gifts ready to go!
And I will guarantee that the recipients will love them!

EASY BATH BOMB RECIPE
Bath Bombs are so easy to make and this Bath Bomb Recipe is so simple! All you need are a few easy to find ingredients and a couple of supplies to make them happen.

The first thing we are going to do is gather all of our materials!
Many of these can be purchased at the grocery store and I am providing links to items that may be harder to find:
- Baking Soda
- Epsom Salt
- Cornstarch
- Citric Acid
- Coloring (I am using Shimmering Mica Powder)
- Coconut Oil
- Essential Oil (I used Lemon and Bergamot)
- Extra Additions (optional, but fun!) I am using Dried Chamomile Flowers and Dried Rose Petals
- Bath Bomb Molds
As you can see, I am using Lemon and Bergamot scented essential oils, but you can use whatever scents you want to. I think that Pink Grapefruit, Lavender, or Vanilla would be great. You can also vary the additions (or use none at all). Adding Dried Lavender to the Lavender Essential Oil or adding Dried Oatmeal to the Vanilla would be perfect. The last combination will be like bathing in a cookie!
HOMEMADE BATH BOMB RECIPE
The one thing I want to point out ahead of time is that you need to be careful when you are mixing your ingredients so that you don’t activate your Citric Acid. The Citric Acid is what provides the “fizz” to the bombs and if you get your dry ingredients too wet too fast you will activate fizzing in the mixing bowl.
To avoid this you want to mix your dry ingredients together and your wet ingredients together separately. Then add the wet ingredients SLOWLY to the dry ones. DO NOT add the dry into the wet and dO NOT add the wet ingredients all at once to the dry.
All it takes is a bit of patience.
Let’s get to making Homemade Bath Bombs!
Mix together dry ingredients in a bowl:
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 1/2 cup Epsom Salt
- 1/2 cup Cornstarch
- 1/2 cup Citric Acid
Mix together wet ingredients in another bowl:
- 2 tsp.warm water
- 1-2 tsp. Essential Oil
- 2 TB melted Coconut Olive Oil
- 1-2 tsp Shimmering Mica Powder (optional)
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients a little at a time. Drizzle some in and then mix. And do it again and again until everything is mixed together.
Once everything is mixed together, the consistency will feel like wet sand.
Now you want to separate your bath bombs molds into two halves. Fill each half by pressing the bath bomb mixture firmly into the mold. You want to overfill them just a bit. Now press the two halves together and let them sit for a few minutes.
Tap gently on the mold to release the bath bomb.
Let them sit on the counter for at least 24 hours before you use them or wrap them up. I like to be safe and let them sit out for 48 hours.
Once they are completely dry you can store them as desired in a dry container or bag. Be sure to release any air if you choose to store them in a Ziploc bag.
The bath bombs will keep for several months, so feel free to make a bunch for yourself! And a few for your friends!
To create cute packaging for your DIY bath bombs simply wrap them up in a square of plastic wrap, cellophane wrap, tissue paper, or netting when they are fully dry (let them dry for at least 24 hours). You can add a cute, coordinating bow that looks nice with the color of the bath bomb. Adding charms or twine will also make your package look great.
Stacking them in a mason jar and setting them on your bathroom counter would be cute also! Plus it will serve as a good reminder to use them regularly!
Be creative and have fun with your presentation!
