These handmade ornaments do well in a rustic, farmhouse-style home but you can decorate them for any style.
I will tell the great thing about these cuties! They only take two ingredients to make and you probably have them in your house right now: Cinnamon and Applesauce. And both of them can be the store brand. No organic needed.
There is no need to buy the best for this craft.
And who among us doesn’t love a cheap DIY craft?
Y’all know that I do!
Keep in mind that these Cinnamon Ornaments can be cut into any shape and size and they can be made into ornaments or into a garland. I also think they are cute piled in a jar with a big bow tied on.
Be creative and use my idea as a starting point for your own do it yourself ideas. And be sure to send me a picture of what you come up with!

CINNAMON CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS RECIPE
Let’s get started on our Cinnamon Ornaments Tutorial!
Gather your supplies:
- Cinnamon
- Applesauce
- Cookie Cutters (I like stars or hearts)
- Rolling Pin
- Baking Sheet
- Tin Foil
- Baker’s Twine (optional)
- Ribbon (optional)
- Glue Gun
STEP ONE: In a bowl, stir together 1 cup Applesauce and between 1-1/3 to 1-1/2 cups Cinnamon until well combined. You are looking for a texture that will roll out without sticking to the rolling pin. Feel free to add more cinnamon to get that consistency.
STEP TWO: Sprinkle some cinnamon on a flat surface and place your cinnamon/applesauce dough on top of it.
STEP THREE: Using your rolling pin, roll out the dough until it is 1/4″ thick. Keep in mind that this is the type of dough you can reroll repeatedly. So if you have some parts that look bad, just don’t cut them at this time. You can reroll the dough and start again.
STEP FOUR: Using your cookie cutters, cut your shapes and place them on a baking sheet covered with tin foil. Make a small hole all the way through. This creates a “hanger hole” for the shapes.
STEP FIVE: Bake in a 200 degree oven for approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours. You will be able to feel when the ornaments are completely dried. Mine took closer to 2 hours.
STEP SIX: Allow the shapes to cool completely and decorate as desired.
This recipe makes twenty-five 1″ cinnamon ornament shapes.

Let’s chat a little bit about decorating the cinnamon shapes.
You can be all kinds of creative when it comes to these DIY Cinnamon Christmas Ornaments.
Baker’s Twine is a perfect addition since it is thin and colorful, all at the same time. If you want to use ribbon be sure to keep in mind that you might need to make a bigger hole in your shapes for it to fit through. You can also use your glue gun to add bows.
It would be very cute to cut Gingerbread man and woman shapes and add bows for a fun effect.
Also, these can easily be threaded into garlands for your mantle or your tree.
Using them to decorate your gift wrapping is so simple too. Just use some twine to tie them onto a package and it all becomes better than when you started.
