A DESK TO LOVE: A DIY STORY
So, my desk is done. It took me a lot longer than I thought it would, but that is simply because other things had to take priority. But here we are…a “desk to sell” is done. Or as it is now known, a “desk to love”.
The original plan was to sell it. It was given to me for free and although I loved the lines and the shape, I did not think it would fit into my new little house.
A funny thing happened while I was moving things around to photograph it to place it for sale….I found the perfect spot and I love it. So it is staying right here with me.
Where it belongs.
Honestly, I do not see this being used very much as an actual desk, but it is in a perfect spot next to my dining table so that it can be used occasionally as a buffet to hold extra items when we have company over. Also, I just think it looks darn cute next to my back door.
Isn’t this the way life usually is? Something comes your way that you aren’t sure about, but after time it is obvious that it is a good fit. It may not have been your first choice, but it works.
It works very well.
On some days I feel like my whole life is like this…nothing I would have chosen, but it is really good just the way it is. I would not have had the wisdom to know to choose it, but God was good enough to bring it all my way. And now it works.
It works very well.
DIY is a funny thing, whether it’s an old desk or a whole life. Surprising things happen, things do not work as planned, and other things work is unexpected places.
And if I have not mentioned it yet….it all works very well.
What a pretty color… and I love how you staged it.
Thank you, Joyce!
Hi! I love the rods that you have holding up the shelves above the desk. By chance, do you know where you purchased them?
Hi Jen, They are gas pipes. You can buy them at Home Depot. Very simple to install!

Lovely little desk. I am midway through refinishing a very plain blah ikea desk. The best projects are the ones where you take something discarded and make them not only useful but beautiful.
Your desk is gorgeous.
Thank you, Leanna!
Right now I am starting work on a set of 4 chairs. They will be black with black and white gingham on the seats. I think I am going to want to keep them instead of selling them….which is a bit of a downfall for me when I redo furniture!
Have a lovely evening,
Randi 🙂
The beauty of what we do is taking something and making it useful and beautiful. You did just that.
Thank you, Debra! Those are very kind words!
