SPRUCING UP THE KITCHEN ON A BUDGET
I live in a tiny house.
Not an actual “tiny house”, but rather a house that is tiny. It is a perfect fit for my daughter and I but the kitchen can be a bit of a challenge. It’s in the corner of my house with very little light, so it feels too dark much of the time. For this reason I keep the counters clear of clutter, which unfortunately extends to decorative items. To add color and character to my kitchen I keep things cute on the island while leaving the rest uncluttered.
Let me show you how I went about sprucing up the kitchen on a budget.
My first purchase was a bouquet of tulips. Am I the only one who thinks these are the happiest flowers around? They just scream “life is good”, if you ask me! Two mason jars made perfect vases and I love the simple look they provide. I commandeered a handmade wooden tray from my coffee table to use as a holder for my lovelies.
A couple of weeks ago when I was in World Market I came across this adorable little strainer. It was available in several colors including apple green and red, but the aqua one jumped into my cart (of course!). The $2.99 price tag was impossible to ignore. I regret not buying a few more because these would make cute candy dishes. I like to give things like this to friends filled with their favorite candy for their birthdays. The cost is minimal, but the cuteness level is high!
To fill my adorable strainer I simply took some sisal rope and wound it a couple of times around my fingers and I secured it with sisal twine. Both of these were bought at Walmart and I regularly use them for crafting and DIY projects. They are inexpensive and they have that natural look that I love!
Sprucing up the kitchen on a budget is not hard. You just have to put a bit of thought into it and shop around for some simple items. And when I say I “shop” I mean you can shop your house as well. I often take something from one part of the house and put it in another, like I did with the handmade wood tray. For me it counts as new since it is being used in a new and fun way.
Friends, I hope you are in the middle of having a wonderful day. The flowers above are for you. I appreciate the time you take to stop by my blog and visit with me.
Blessings to you!
