DIY BARN QUILT TUTORIAL
DIY BARN QUILT SIGN
Hello, Friends!
I am so very excited to share this project with you!
I do not know if you know this, but I am a quilter at heart, and I used to own a fabric shop called Fresh-Squeezed Fabrics and I taught classes and quilted like crazy. Loved it!

Barn quilts have always been fascinating to me and I was able to see some last year while driving through Missouri. How cool to have quilt blocks hanging on the side of a barn.
So I thought why not have them hanging on my walls?

I am quite happy with how this came out and I have come with a little tutorial for you. Believe it or not, this is a simple piece to make. All it involves is some taping and painting.
Now, I did not include specifics about adding the frame, so please let me know if you need that. I would be happy to put together a tutorial for that. Otherwise, you can just paint the edges of your sign and hang it. That works perfectly.
Please note that this project takes a while simply because you will spend a good amount of time waiting for your paint to dry. Paint one part of the sign and remove your tape, and go do something else for about one hour. Then do another part.
See? It is all about the drying time.

Get Your Wood Piece Ready
Step One: Paint your wood piece using your background color (I used Linen White). Let this dry for at least 2 hours.
Step Two: Draw your grid of 16 squares using your straight edge and pencil. You will simply need to divide your wood piece into a grid of 4 X 4 equal pieces and mark it. And please note that you can do this on any size piece of wood and divide into a 4 X 4 grid.
Step Three: Draw your diagonal lines using your straight edge and pencil.
Step Four: Mark the areas on the sign that need to be painted. You could also put an X in each area.
Paint Your Wood Piece
Step Five: Decide where you want to start and apply tape to the edges of one of your marked areas. Please note that you can paint more than one area at a time, but you need to make sure that the tape does not overlap. In other words, paint areas on opposite ends of the sign at the same time.
Step Six: Once the paint is no longer shiny remove your tape.
Step Seven: Let that paint dry for one hour. If you do not allow for drying time there is a chance that adding new tape over freshly painted areas will remove your paint, so do not skip the drying time.
Step Eight: Give your sign a light sanding and you are done!
Step Nine: You can either add a frame of your own (let me know if you want a tutorial for this step!) or paint the edges and hang on the wall.
My sign needs a matching partner and I will be hanging the set behind my couch. The set will add a perfect farmhouse, rustic touch to my walls, if you ask me.
