HOW TO DO A FURNITURE MAKEOVER THAT SELLS
One question I am often asked is “how to do a furniture makeover that sells?”.
And to be honest, there is a difference between doing a furniture makeover for yourself and one that will sell.
In my own experience, I have found that it comes down to color.
I love pinks and aquas and lots of fun colors that add a “pop” to my home decor. But I have learned to use these for pieces that I make for myself or for my friends.
When it comes to selling a piece, I need to keep things toned down and create things that appeal to the general public. The fact is that a lot of people would not want a pink dresser and even if they did love it they would not know how to style it in their home.

How To Do A Furniture Makeover That Sells
DIY furniture transformations are one way that I bring in side-income and color is the key to selling them quickly. Revamping old furniture with paint is fun and I love the creativity involved with it, but unless I want to keep the piece sitting in my garage until the right buyer comes along, I need to tone it down.
This has been something that I have learned over time. And it has been a bit disappointing because I really love to create a fun piece! My own home decor style consists of a neutral background with touches of color that stand out.
Each and every time my quick sellers are white, gray or blue. Lucky for me I can use variations on these colors to make it a bit fun in the process.

Colors That I Love To Use On Pieces I Plan To Sell
My go-to whites and grays are Rustoleum chalk paints. These colors are basic and can be included easily in most home decor color schemes.
The blues that I use are from Dixie Belle. And I LOVE their selection of shades! Out of these colors, the slowest one to sell is Peacock. It still sells well and much better than other colors such as pink.
I think the main thing to remember when doing a furniture makeover that you plan to sell is to ask yourself “how easy is this to incorporate into the average home?”. If the color is not used often or if it is exceptionally bright, you are much better off saving that color for your own home decor adventures.
Here is where I will give you a little secret: paint a piece for yourself first and use it in your own home for a while, and when you are ready for a change simply paint it one of the basic colors and sell it! A fresh coat of paint gives the piece a new life and makes it appealing to a wider audience and a wider audience is what you are looking for when your aim is to sell.
I am very happy to say that this console dresser sold within one day. The gal who bought it drove two hours to pick it up. She was very happy with it!
