FARMHOUSE CHRISTMAS DECORATING IDEAS
FARMHOUSE CHRISTMAS DECOR
Christmas time is a comin’ and I am looking forward to decorating, aren’t you? Let’s take some time to talk about Farmhouse Christmas Decorating Ideas!
Moving from Farmhouse home decor to Farmhouse Christmas home decor can be challenging.
How do you even decorate for a rustic Christmas?
Well, it is simple AND beautiful! All you need to do is draw in some color, print, and texture that represents the season.
Red and green are, of course, favorites, but other colors work as well. Blue, pink and gold are also popular Christmas colors and it is fairly easy to find decor items in those colors. Obviously, if you make them yourself you can use any color you want.
Keep print and texture in mind also. Buffalo checks, polka dots, stripes, plaid, galvanized metal, wood and burlap all lend themselves beautifully to Christmas decorating.
I like to come up with a “theme” for each year. Choosing two colors and a style usually sets me on my way. One of my favorite decorating themes was when I used cookie cutters with red bows along with candy canes. I absolutely loved it and so did my kids!
One year I make ornaments with vintage seed packets and dried fruit and my whole family hated it. It is a funny story now but that year decorating the tree was a big drag and my kids had no qualms letting me know. All I am saying is pick family-friendly themes when the kids are little. The Christmas Tree is important to them as well as to you.
Please be sure to check out this entire post. I started with showing you some beautiful overall decorating themes, but as you scroll down there are adorable DIY projects for you to try out. Some of these are on my radar for themes right now…I just need to narrow things down before it is time to decorate.
That is the tough part, isn’t it???

Attention DIYers: Christmas is your time to shine!
Sometimes it can feel overwhelming to decorate an entire room.
When the holiday season rolls around you get to decorate one corner of the room with worrying about the whole thing.
Of course, you can go crazy and decorate the whole house, but I am more of a “one corner” type of girl. And if I am feeling especially motivated the front door will get some attention. Other than that, I am good to go for the season.

These trees are gorgeous! I will admit that although I always have a “theme” for my tree, I also add special family ornaments as well. Personally, I think that is what makes it uniquely your own. Sure, it detracts from the theme a bit, but Christmas is all about family and memories and general goodness.
One way to avoid the expense of all new ornaments is to combine DIY ornaments with bulbs you already have. Most people have red or silver bulbs that they used in the past and they can be used again and again.
Over the years I have collected red, green, blue and silver bulbs and I hardly ever buy new ones. I just put the old ones to good use.
After-Christmas sales are great for buying ornaments very cheap (my favorite way to buy things!). Lights and wrapping paper can be bought as well and saved for next year.
If you buy a very basic wrapping paper (like red with polka dots) it is sure to fit with next year’s theme.
Where I live in Colorado it is possible to buy a tree-cutting permit for only $15. This is a fun way to make getting the Christmas Tree a fun family event. Just keep in mind that trees growing in the wild are a lot more imperfect than ones bought in the store. Allow lots of time to trek through the woods and find the perfect one. And do not forget that Charlie Brown Christmas Trees are pretty great!

I am going to be honest and tell you that I LOVE each and every one of these Christmas Tree Decoration tutorials. My goal is to pick two in order to create a theme for my tree. The salt dough ornaments will make an appearance for sure.
In the past, I have made cinnamon dough ornaments and those smell SO GOOD. You can scroll down for the simple tutorial.
Making Christmas ornaments is the perfect time to include the kids. No, the ornaments will not be perfect, but they will be special. Kids take a lot of pride in their own handmade creations and I love starting them off with some simple DIYs so they can find success for themselves.
If you are not the type of person who likes an imperfect tree, why not have two trees…one for you and one for the kids. Let them pick their own theme and provide them with supplies and lots of guidance. You can purchase small Christmas trees at Walmart for around $25 and I think that is totally worth the cost!
That leaves you with a beautiful tree all your own.
